Roughly fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.

Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.

Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.

A high-ranking representative commented the attack rendered him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
