Cyclone the storm Intensifies As It Heads Towards Jamaica

Tropical Storm the storm is predicted to become a rare Category 5 hurricane as it turns towards Jamaica, delivering life-threatening sudden floods and mudslides.

This weather system, which had wind speeds of up to 120 mph as of 06:00 GMT, is now shifting north-west in the Caribbean and is anticipated to make landfall by midweek, according to meteorological authorities.

Advisories of power cuts and structural damage have been announced as this storm produces up to 76cm of rainfall and sea level surges as high as 13ft above normal levels. "Seek shelter now," residents have been told.

Melissa is the thirteenth hurricane in the current Atlantic season, which usually concludes in late autumn.
