Ange Postecoglou faced jeers from Nottingham Forest fans during Thursday's fixture

Nottingham Forest head coach Ange Postecoglou maintains that external scrutiny regarding his role will not impact his methodology.

The club remains without a victory in his first six games since the Australian replaced Nuno Espirito Santo at the club's stadium.

A group of Forest fans chanted, "you're getting sacked in the morning", at the former Tottenham and Celtic boss following Thursday's 3-2 European loss at home to the Danish side.

Postecoglou's Reaction to Criticism

Postecoglou, however, mentioned that the European trophy he won at Tottenham the previous campaign, before being sacked in the summer, was evidence he does not let pressure to affect his coaching.

"I don't think about it," he added. "My responsibility lies in ensuring this team progresses and gets to a level where it can challenge for titles," stated Postecoglou.

"Should I begin putting timelines to that or worry about what is occurring soon then I am not fulfilling the position I have been assigned.

"I just don't think it is helpful to anyone. At the end of the day, I have to concentrate on the atmosphere, the practice sessions, the way we play, and as I said last night, I am still extremely confident in my conviction that we are close to success.

"To explain - I was aware I was getting sacked at Tottenham about three or four months before I was, but that didn't prevent me from winning something."

Career History

The veteran coach moved to Spurs from Celtic in the previous year and supporters initially embraced the Australian for his attacking style of play, with the London club finishing fifth in the English top flight during his debut campaign.

Postecoglou's following season was challenging as Spurs finished 17th in the table. He nevertheless, guide the club to their first trophy in 17 years as they beat Manchester United in the Europa League championship match.

Current Circumstances

Forest visit Newcastle United on the weekend (2pm UK time).

Amid the poor run of outcomes, there is little doubt it has been a challenging beginning for Postecoglou.

And the statistics illustrate just how disappointing Forest have performed since his appointment.

Statistical Breakdown

  • In Postecoglou's six matches, they have lost on four occasions across three different competitions
  • No Premier League team has been defeated in as many matches as Forest since his appointment

  • Only Manchester United and Burnley have a poorer defensive per game average than Forest since Postecoglou's arrival
  • Unexpectedly, it is the 35th instance in which a top-flight manager has not secured a victory in any of initial six fixtures in every tournament

Historical Perspective

Paul Jewell maintains the record, having failed to win in his initial twenty-seven matches as Derby County boss in the 2007/08 campaign.

Nuno was fired after just three fixtures of this campaign when Forest were tenth in the table. They are now 17th, having tied once and lost two of their three league games under Postecoglou.

He is the first permanent Forest manager in a century not to win any of initial six matches.

Supporter Perspective

This campaign could have been one of Nottingham Forest's finest in recent times. Qualification for Europe for the initial occasion in 30 years, the strongest team this century and all involved working towards the same direction.

Somehow, currently, that has completely vanished away. Nuno has departed, displays have been abject and on the recent evening the City Ground criticized the recent appointment Ange Postecoglou after just six games.

However it's typically classic Forest, a club that shifts from success to internal crisis like a learner driver who fails to remain in a lane.

Future Fixtures

Amid fixtures against Newcastle, Chelsea, the Portuguese side, Bournemouth and the Red Devils coming up, it's very hard to say whether he can turn it around before it becomes increasingly toxic.

But ask any fan and they'll inform you the identical thing, it's never dull at Nottingham Forest.
