Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.

Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a significant and ongoing offensive against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the United States has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.

It said missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
