As we head into the last weekend of the regular NFL campaign, just two postseason berths are still up for grabs. Yet, a great deal more is at stake, including the highly desired top seeds in both conferences and several division titles.
NFL schedulers have crafted a perfect finale, with the final two play-off positions on the line in a pair of winner-take-all matchups.
The winner of the Steelers-Ravens game will claim the fourth seed and a home-field advantage in the wildcard round. At the same time, Buffalo and the Chargers are locked in as wildcard teams.
Houston need a victory and a Jaguars loss to jump from the fifth seed to the third seed. The Broncos will earn the top seed with a win, but a setback could open the door for New England or Jacksonville to snatch it.
The South division is up for grabs by the victor of the Carolina-Tampa Bay game, earning them the #4 position. However, Carolina could still claim the divisional title even with a defeat, depending on other results.
The Packers are set at the seventh seed. The highlight, however, is the battle for the NFC's top seed between the Seahawks and the 49ers, with a first-round bye and home playoff games hanging in the balance.
The top seed in each conference earns a valuable bye week and home games throughout the postseason.
On the Wild Card round, the other six qualified teams face off: the second seed hosts the #7 team, third hosts sixth, and fourth hosts fifth.
In the second round, the top seeds join the competition, hosting the weakest surviving team. The AFC and NFC championship games are then played at the highest seed, underscoring the critical value of securing that #1 ranking.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens (01:20, Monday)
This fierce rivalry comes to a head in the final game of the NFL season. The divisional title and a postseason spot on the line, this is a genuine elimination scenario.
Pittsburgh have been inconsistent all year, while Baltimore struggled early but remain in the hunt. Player availability could be decisive: The Steelers may miss star receiver DK Metcalf, while the Ravens' quarterback their MVP QB is questionable with a health issue.
Star rusher the powerful back could be the x-factor for the Ravens in what promises to be a hard-hitting, defensive struggle.
San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks (01:00, Sunday)
Not only the NFC West is at stake when the Seahawks visits the 49ers. The winner claims the NFC's top seed and the road to the championship game that it provides.
This matchup pits an high-powered San Francisco attack against a stingy Seattle defense. With QB Brock Purdy came back, the 49ers have been the NFL's top offense. On the other hand, Seattle's defense is rated second best in the league.
Seattle quarterback their passer must avoid mistakes that have haunted him this season. Whoever comes out on top earns a massive advantage for the postseason journey.
Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (21:30 Saturday)
Both clubs enters this game with much momentum. Tampa Bay have dropped four straight, while the Panthers have missed chances to clinch the division.
The Panthers it's simple: a victory gets them in. For Tampa Bay, the situation is more complex. Even with a victory, they need another result from the Falcons-Saints game to steal the division crown.
Tennessee Titans @ Jacksonville Jaguars (18:00, Sunday)
New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins (21:25, Sunday)
Denver Broncos vs. Los Angeles Chargers (21:25, Sunday)
Denver hold the cards for the #1 AFC spot. A victory over a L.A. Chargers team likely to rest key players gets it done.
Should Denver falter, the opportunity arises for the New England Patriots. A Patriots win coupled with a Broncos loss would hand the top seed to Bill Belichick's team.
Jacksonville are the dark horse. They need a triumph and losses by the Broncos and Patriots to pull off an improbable ascent to #1. More importantly, a Jaguars loss could see them passed by the Houston Texans in the division standings.
