The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several intriguing future games, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a young woman harboring multiple personalities inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Inside her exist four separate personas, each with unique fears and drives. These souls can seize control at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, though additional clips show the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.

A World of Individual Horror

"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at a particular time. However, these identities will switch involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by orderlies all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous blooms where their necks should be. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four souls claims that the body is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one remaining could be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
