The skiing legend Optimistic of Being 'in a good place' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in five World Cup races.

The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in Val d'Isere

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," Vonn remarked. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm satisfied with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn ended her career in early 2019 because of ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 following a major knee surgery.

With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She has one gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the 2026 Games.

"In Cortina, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has secured over a career spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the overall super-G standings.

This season's World Cup circuit includes a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
